Last Sunday, 26th June 2011, the Gay Pride Parade in Barcelona took place. Gays and lesbians took the streets and participated in the best gay event in Barcelona: a colorful parade from Plaza Universitat to Plaza Espanya which kicked off at 6pm.
The big party was to be celebrated at Plaza Espanya, along Maria Cristina Avenue, starting at the foot of the great two towers at the side and ending at the stage opposite the magic fountains of Montjuic and below the great MNAC, the impressive palace at the back.
The rainbow of the Gay Pride, which started on June 18th, joined the great show of the magical fountains of Montjuic. Gays, lesbians and other friendly people attended such a nice event. Everybody was welcomed to enjoy the free, open-air party hosted in Barcelona. The avenue of Maria Cristina in Barcelona became a rainbow when hosting the most important annual gay event in Barcelona.
On the stage there was an outgoing, cheerful presenter introducing to the artists: Alaska, the leader of Fangoria, opened the ceremony and read the manifesto and afterwards gave a performance with her group Fangoria. Other artists worth to mention were Shimai, OBK and dj Mark Tattoo, among others.
If you couldn't attend Gay Pride Festival in Barcelona, you still have the opportunity to witness another gay event in Barcelona. From June 28th 2011 to July 9th, there is the gay and lesbian film festival Fire! which celebrates its 16th edition. There are also two parties at the first weekend: Golfa tu, on Saturday midnight, and Girl on fire on Sunday at 8pm.
Also, you can still attend the Gay Pride Festival in Sitges, close to Barcelona, from 8th to 12th July.
